Are there any authentic Kahuna courses in Australia or do you have to go overseas? I know a lot of people do it here but how does it compare with what the people in Hawaii really do? I'm interested but I don't want to spend all my money and time doing it and then get told that it's not legitimate..thankyou, Chrissy
Ka Huna
I did it at www.mettesinstitute.com.au which is pretty good as she studied in hawaii and it is widely recognized
Apart from that I am not sure, I did it there because a friend recommended it
Authentic courses
Aloha Chrissy,
From my understanding Ka Huna is not actually authentic Lomilomi. Traditionally people who teach Lomilomi are given permission from a Hawaiian elder to teach. This permission is given to individuals that are known to the elder and that have studied in some capacity with that elder. Different elders can give permission through their lineage.
As I understand it the people that teach Ka huna have not been give permission to teach, or to use the name Ka Huna which is basically the name for a wise elder "kahuna" in Hawaii. However that said, what they are teaching is different to Lomilomi. In Lomilomi you are taught to focus love on the receivers body and to allow their spirit to guide you. My understanding of Ka huna (and this comes from someone that has practiced both modalities and now has permission to teach Lomilomi), is that in Ka Huna, the giver in some regards "trys" to help the receiver release etc, which translates as using their energy and their ego to influence the process, rather than allowing the spirits to work together in the way that the receivers spirit chooses. Ka Huna is also more physical in it approach.
I hope this helps. I practice Lomilomi in Melbourne and if you are in Melbourne I can suggest a fabulous teacher,
check out http://www.alohamia.com/ and if you are not in melbourne, let me know, i may be able to find out who else teaches around Australia.
There is also a Hawaiian elder, Aunty Mahealani, coming to Australia in September (Byron and Melbourne and maybe Canberra) if your interested. She is running workshops.
Aloha :)
