Naturopathy is the use of a range of natural therapies to improve health and assist with recovery from illness. These therapies include nutrition, iridology, homeopathy, herbalism, and massage. Many naturopaths expand their skills beyond those listed above, whilst others choose to specialise in just a few therapies.
The focus of naturopathy is on providing clients with the knowledge and ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Illnesses are addressed by establishing and treating the cause rather than focusing on the symptoms. Further to this, clients are assessed in a holistic fashion with mind, body, spirit and lifestyle all taken into account.
In Australia it is possible to study Naturopathy to the level of a Bachelor Degree. This is typically either the Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) or a Bachelor of Naturopathy. Advanced Diplomas in Naturopathy are also available from some institutions. If your therapist is registered as a naturopath with a recognised association you can be confident that they have received a high level of training.
